2CV Special vs Club

In July 1975, a base model 2CV called the Spécial was introduced, while the standard 2CV was the Club. The Spécial had a significtantly reduced specification and trim level to minimise costs. This initially included having a 435cc A79/1 engine, round headlights (rectangular headlights had replaced round headlights in 1974), two side windows rather than three on each side and reduced internal trim. In 1978 the Spécial regained the third side windows and in 1979 the 602cc M28/1 engine replsced the 435cc version. In 1981, the Spécial E was introduced, which has a centrifugal clutch as standard.

The other main differences are detailed below.

plastic moulded trims found on the 2CV Club. Other 2CVs shared their instruments with the Dyane and H-Van but the Spécial had a much smaller square speedometer also incorporating the fuel gauge, originally fitted to the 2CV in the mid-1960s and then discontinued. The model also had a revised (and cheaper-to-make) plastic version of the 1960s two-spoke steering wheel .
